i’d definitely put last night’s show in the top 3 of best s-k shows ever. it really was a show for the fans (who yes, definitely, are getting younger and younger all the time - i didn’t see anyone, save the band and southpaw staff, who looked older than me, and i’m 27.) but in any case, all the things candice said were spot-on. well worth sweating through my favorite t-shirt for.
the band looked really excited to be playing for their own fans, as opposed to the nacho-eaters in the huge venues. there was much dancing and smiling and general happiness. plus, they unveiled a brand-new song, called “giraffe.” i got an mp3 of that and the new song they debuted a couple months back, with the tambourine and carrie singing lead.
here’s the set list:
oh
things you say
far away
one song for you
get up
light rail coyote
o2
heart factory
giraffe
sympathy
step aside
new song
one beat
one more hour
words + guitar
end of you
encore:
promised land (with janet stopping the entire song because the harmonica mic was out, then starting again at the middle break - quite amusing, the harmonicanarchy)
good things
combat rock
turn it on
